New Delhi में जन्मीं Rakul ने Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan से अपनी पढाई की और इसके बाद उन्होंने Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi से BSc (Hons) Mathematics की डिग्री भी हांसिल की। अपने कॉलेज के दौरान ही उन्होंने Modeling Industry में अपने करियर की शुरुआत की।
2011 में उन्होंने Beauty Pageant “Femina Miss India” में पार्टिसिपेट किया। इस Pageant में उन्होंने पांचवा स्थान प्राप्त किया और पांच Pageant Titles “People’s Choice Miss Indiatimes“, “Pantaloons Femina Miss Fresh Face“, “Femina Miss Talented“, “Femina Miss Beautiful Smile” और “Femina Miss Beautiful Eyes” भी जीते।
