Delhi में जन्मीं Shonali एक सिन्धी परिवार में पली बढ़ीं। उन्होंने अपनी स्कूली पढ़ाई Good Shepherd English School और Army Public School (Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi) से की और 2003 में Lady Shri Ram College (New Delhi) से Graduation भी कम्पलीट किया।

उन्होंने अपने करियर की शुरुआत एक मॉडल के तौर पर की। 2003 में उन्होंने “Femina Miss India International” का ख़िताब अपने नाम किया और 2003 में ही उन्हें Beauty Pageant “Miss International” में India की Representative के तौर पर भी चुना गया। इस Beauty Pageant में वे 1st Runner-Up रहीं। इसके बाद उन्होंने कई मॉडलिंग शोज में हिस्सा लिया और 2011 और 2012 में उन्हें Times of India की “50 Most Desirable Women” की लिस्ट में भी शामिल किया गया।
